"Do what is right, not what is easy..."

I don't know whether or not you guys have been following the whole business with the building of community center near Ground Zero, but yesterday New York Mayor Bloomberg gave a speech in regards to the Mosque that would be built there.

I have to say his speech does a great job in showing what it is our country; America, is supposed to embody. I encourage you guys to take watch the video below.

"Bless your face, peace off."

I have heard of this but I haven't exactly been following it. Everyone gave Obama crap for saying, "I think they have the right to build the mosque there"

What's wrong with that statement?!! Why is it such a big deal? It is their right to have a mosque...it is our right to disagree too. It doesn't mean that b/c we don't follow the faith, we can't accept that it's our fellow american's regligious preference.

Everything in today's society is based on hatred for one another and everyone wanting to increase their personal portion of their beliefs. Everyone is being greedy and wanting more control but unfortunately, there are other strong people willing to fight for what they believe in too. That's why we are currently facing all of these new laws, debates, & battles for what is right & what is not.

Do I think the mosque should be built on ground zero? NO Do I think they have the right just like other religious groups do? ABSOLUTELY. The mayor is correct to say that if we aren't the bigger person & do what's right, then what can we expect from others?!

EXACTLY!

All I hear now a days is HATE HATE HATE! I fucking tired of it.

About it being built two and half blocks away from ground zero, frankly I don't have a problem with it. It's not directly on it or even over looking it so I've got no beef.

As for the line about doing what's right or else what are we to expect from others, that was one of my favorite lines from his speech. I may not always agree with that guy but to me he spoke a lot of sense and stuck to his guns.

I agree with you guys. It seems as though everything in the world nowadays is based on hatred. Why? Why is there so much hate? I don't know and I can't even begin to answer the question.

I honestly have no problem with a mosque being built a couple of blocks away from Ground Zero. It wasn't Islam that caused this horrendous tragedy, it was those people who were manipulating the religion to impulse their hatred and terrorist way of life. Like CriminologyNerd said it's not on ground zero. The foundation for our country was religious freedom. Whatever happened to that?? Just like I have a right to have my own beliefs so do others. And like Lifesabee stated, I don't necessarily have to agree with their view, but they are entitled to their own choice.

I agree with both of you on the mayors line in which he says, "we must do what is right, and not what is easy. Otherwise what can we expect from others?" This is so very true. If we cant do what is right, what should we expect from others and with what right should we expect anything at all?
