Fall Season


I've been wanting to make a pumpkin pie since I tried my father in law's homemade one! I haven't actually gone looking for a recipe though.  I guess I'll leave that up to you guys to share...your most priced pumpkin pie recipe! I'll try it, post pictures of it, & perhaps even share it...lol PERHAPS!

A situation made worse...

Sorry for no post on Saturday, but I was too pissed off trying to fix the whole being hacked problem to care about writing a blog. I was finally able to fix the problem this morning after finally remembering the information I needed. Well, I didn't really remember, it was more of a trial and error process. It was extremely tedious!

Anyway to the topic that I wanted to share, it's a video of a man at an abortion clinic. He and his wife had to go get an abortion because their baby had a 0% chance of living being that the baby had a congenital deformity. On their way into the clinic they were confronted by images of dismembered fetuses and two women yelling, "You're killing your unborn baby!" Obviously, this made the already horrible situation worse and so the man decided to confront the two women outside while his wife was inside in surgery. Here's the video of the confrontation:


I'm glad the man confronted these women. It really pisses me off when people judge without knowing all of the information. If they are so Godly why don't they follow what it teaches in the Bible about not judging OTHERS!?! I believe that's supposed to be God's duty, n'est pas!?! Like the guy said in the video, what they are doing is of no freaken benefit! If they are so against abortion they need to find a method to spread their message of life instead of spreading their disdain and judgement! Shame on them for being so f'ing ignorant and insensitive!

Splice - C

I'm just wondering how many people have seen this movie?  Did you like it?  I didn't like it at all! I thought it was too gross & weird. Seriously, who has sex with a dna implanted lab created creature??  That was just plain wrong!  Not to mention he cheats on his gf with this thing...can you say vomit?!

However, it gets weirder than that, the creature goes through a transformation in which it changes sex & then it has sex with the gf!!!  To make matters worse, her bf dies and she ends up pregnant in the end by this creature.  All I can say is, whoever created this movie was thinking of a weird fetish porno!  lol

Are you ready for Halloween?

I was wondering how many people actually celebrate Halloween & how they celebrate it.  It's one of our main holidays & it kicks off the holiday season for us.  It seems to be my husband's only holiday though!  lol  He's a freak!  I swear he has more fun than the little kids.

Anyway, we celebrate by decorating, dressing up for a Halloween party, & giving out candy.  Last year, we didn't celebrate it and I have had withdrawals from it all year long.  NO JOKE!

I hope this year will be different since my son is now old enough to go trick or treating.  I hope he lets me dress him up though...any ideas for cute no fuss kids costumes?

LOL, I just saw this super cute, makes you wanna barf, video on youtube. It's this guy who sings a song for his gf on youtube. Call me sappy, but I would die if that ever happened to me. I think it's my love of musicals that makes me fantasize about something like this. :P And, I think I've just reviled something about myself that I don't think I have ever let you guys know about. :p


      

Breaking Dawn

So, the much anticipated movie is not going to be released for another year (Nov. 2011 to be exact) but we can keep on wondering how they will split the movie in 2, right?!    ;)

You ain't got no pancake mix!!!

What does the title have to do with this blog? Absolutely nothing! :D But there is a story behind the phrase that you may or may not know about. A simple Google search will bring you into the loop of popular internet memes.

Anyway, on my regular romp through the internet I stumbled upon some cool nail art vids. For some reason I have gotten into nail art quite a bit, but unfortunately I don't quite have the dexterity that many of the people who create nail designs do. But eh, I try to work at it anyway... practice, practice, practice.

I've been meaning to do my nails into a cool Halloween design, but I keep thinking that if I do and get called in for a job interview... well, they may frown upon that. So I decided to do my toes instead. LOL.

I used GoldieStarlings vid for inspiration. I ended up only drawing faces on my big toes (Ugh, that sounds gross to say). I painted one as Frankenstein and one as his bride. I won't show you guys because I think it would be odd to post a picture of my feets on the net. LOL.

Jobs

So I know the job situation is crappy right now but I'm wondering how many people out there have degrees & can't find a job in their repective degrees?

ME, ME!  *raises hand*  It's so bad that I'm considering getting a Nursing degree or certificate!  It seems like all the jobs out there are pertaining to nursing or clerical in health related environments.

Have you thought about changing your major?  If so, to what?  Also, have you heard of The Fairy Jobmother?  I've never actually watched but I'm wondering if it's any good.

I totally forgot!

I totally forgot that yesterday was my day!  I apologize for my forgetfulness!  Sometimes I wonder how sane I really am until I see the people this guy interviews.  lol  Thanks to criminologynerd for getting me hooked on the stupidity of these people.  lol

I needz it!!!


So, I'm freaken craving cake bad... totally jonesin' man! I think the craving has been developing for the past three weeks because of the emails I keep getting from BHG. Like today, I got one about fall cake recipes and of course like a dumbass I had to look at the recipes. I'm gonna end up having to bake a freaken cake now! LOL.

There were some interesting cake recipes that I'd like to try. For example:



















I'm super curious as to what the Chipotle Apple Pecan Cake and Orange Ancho Marble Cake taste like since they have chile in them. It's not like I've never had anything the was sweet and spicy; I've just never had cake that way.

Do you have the day off???

So today in America it's Columbus Day and most people have the day off. While I  doubt anyone actually celebrates Columbus Day other than just a "Woo whoo, I got a three day weekend!" I was wondering how many people know about the controversy of this day.

The other day on facebook my friend posted a video that I found to be interesting. It's about Reconsidering Columbus Day which truthfully I had never given a second thought to. Obviously because I hadn't contemplated the thought that well he did cause mayhem in the Americas.

Ok guys, so we are kinda lame. We only have six days left to raise some money for the March of Dimes march next Saturday. We've only raised 15 bucks! While it's good that we've raised something there are four of us on the team and we could/should have raised more money.

Perhaps you guys could print out your sponsor sheets and take them to work with you? I'm sure you can get some mula. Since neither my mom or I have a workplace we are going to sell burritos to my dad's coworkers on Wednesday to raise money. And I'm also selling candy bars for a buck to anyone who stops by the house. LOL.

Faking it?

Yes, you're imagining right...faking an orgasm is what this article is about but it should be called "Changes in Sexual Behavior"  I decided to post this b/c I like the fact that the article talks about teen pregnancy.  Many of the pregnacies today are teen pregnancies...so why is this?

You would think that with the increase in public sexual education & parent influence, teen pregnancies would be declining but it's not.  We now have the tv shows like Secret Life of the American Teenager & Teen Mom who are probably nothing more than another way for teens to idolize pregnancy & sex.

The truth of the matter is that parents need to be more alert & teach their children about sex early on in life.  I know it's not easy to think of your kids as having sex but if they are, wouldn't you want to know about it so you can help them stay safe?  I would, so here's a neat little video & a link to the Faking It Article.

Stories about polygamist always strike a cord with me but this one for some reason is interesting to me.  Why you ask?  Because I don't understand how this guy could have married 100 women & had over 200 kids.  That's insane!  What's the most interesting about this is that he didn't go around saying he was "something else"  Strange, indeed!"

Maya Angelou @ 70 yrs old

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70 birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was 'exciting.' Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day...like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first. The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such an honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!

Domestic Violence Awareness


I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while now and what better month than October to do so since it is after all Domestic Violence Awareness Month. And yes, I’m sorry I didn’t post this on the day that meant to. Life happens.

Definition/Information

I suppose we should start with what exactly is Domestic Violence (DV). According to the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence (AzCADV), DV can be defined as:

A pattern of behavior that includes the use or threat of violence and intimidation for the purpose of gaining power and control over another person. Violence is characterized by physical abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse, isolation, emotional abuse, control, or verbal abuse.

Now keep in mind that the abuser can be ones husband, wife, child, roommate, relative, boyfriend/girlfriend and any such person that one cohabitates with. Since DV cases mostly involve women and their husbands or boyfriends I’ll be posting mostly about that. That’s not to say however that men aren’t abused by their partners because that too happens.

Let's take for example the common characteristics of a male abuser (i.e. husband or boyfriend). In many aspects the abuser may have or do: 

-          A traditional view of women
-          Alcohol Abuse
-          Different public versus private behavior (e.g. be a saint with strangers but an abusing asshole while behind closed doors)
-          Abuses his power, uses control and/or manipulation tactics
-          Clams to lose control when he harms you
-          Tends to excuse or justify their behavior
o   If you would just listen to me I wouldn’t have to hurt you.
o   If you would just learn to shut up and do what you’re told!
o   It’s never his fault for his behavior. It’s always someone else’s… most likely “yours”.


Men who abuse underestimate…

-          Amount of violence they are using
-          Type of violence they are using (e.g. slap vs. punch)
-          How often they are violent
-          The likelihood that their violence will cause injury.
-          The types of injuries and number of injuries.


Unfortunately, even after being harmed or abused in any way by their husband or boyfriend, a woman may think that things will change and this was only a one time thing. Chances are however that will not happen. In all likelihood things will actually escalate and often times become worse. And then you'll get stuck in this never ending Cycle of Abuse.



I want to share this video of an episode of 20/20 which was aired a few years ago. It's about a woman who thought she had married the perfect guy. The video is about 21 mins long and is a bit hard to watch, but it a good idea of what happens in DV cases. 




Stats
-          Nearly one-third of American women report being raped and/or physically assaulted by a current or former boyfriend at some point in their lives.
-          Ever nine seconds, a woman in this country is physically abused.
-          On average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country every day.
-          Domestic violence accounts for over 50 percent of female homicides.
-          An estimated 4.5 million physical assaults are committed against U.S. women by intimate partners annually.
-          Eight-five percent of domestic violence victims are women.
-          Women of all socio-economic groups experience abuse. However, women in poverty face particular hardships and challenges when they try to leave abusive relationships because they lack the resources they need to support themselves and their children.
-          DV among gay and lesbian couples occurs in approximately 25-30 percent of relationships- the same statistical frequency as in heterosexual relationships.
-          Slightly more than half of female victims of intimate partner violence (IPA) live in households with children under age 12.
-          Each year, thousands of American children witness IPA within their families. Witnessing violence is a risk factor for long-term physical and mental health problems, including alcohol and substance abuse, being a victim of abuse, and perpetrating IPV.

How to know if you’re in DV relationship

The AzCADV website has a quiz that you can take to help you see if you are indeed such a relationship. Sometimes people don’t even know they are in a violent relationship because their situation has become “normal” to them. It sometime takes an outside point of view or checklist such as the one provided on the AzCADV website to help you see what’s really going on.


What now?

So let us say that you have come to the realization that the relationship you’re in is indeed domestic violence and you want out for your safety. There are loads of places that one can go to get help in leaving theses relationships. For example, most places have centers where you can get information on how to go about leaving e.g. The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence,  Family Violence Prevention Fund, or the Women’s Resource Center.

Whatever route one decides to take make sure you protect yourself and children first! Get the help you need and get out of the horrible situation you are in. Nobody deserves to be treated like that.

Check out some of the sites for more information on what to do, stats, and how to get help. You never know when shit will hit the fan. Don't become a statistic!!! 

PS. Yes, this is meant for you. I know you know I’m talking to you specifically. We; Steph, Bee, and I, are worried for you and S. Come on girl! You don’t deserve this shit! 

How is this funny?! Young Children & Jon Bennet

Drug addicts should not be with their children...especially if they are going to do crap like this. I don't see how this is funny at all!

On another note, is anyone going to follow the Jon Bennet re-opening of the case? I have to admit that this is one of the murder investigations I have been very interested in since the day I heard about it and it's probably because of all the unanswered questions & lack of proper investigation.

I know lots of people believe the Ramseys are responsible but I don't think so. I think this is one of those investigations that once the truth comes out, people will be shocked because the evidence was RIGHT THERE & OVERLOOKED.

My theories:
-Santa
-Sexual Predator
-A Robbery gone Bad
-A Kidnapping gone Bad

I honestly don't think the Ramseys are responsible & don't see why people continue to criticize Patsy for putting her child through the Beauty Pagents. Both Patsy & Jon Bennet Ramsey are dead, let it rest & focus on finding the killer because after all, he/she's still out there.

Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

I don't know if any of you guys have see this video before but whenever you have a chance please do see this lecture by Dr. Randy Pausch. It is a bit long but it is worth it, amazing, and very thought provoking in the best way possible.

I was supposed to watch this lecture as a homework assignment but I think that it has given me much more than extra work to do, it has actually encouraged me to think and to be grateful and appreciative of the things that I have right now and to always continue to dream and to work towards my dreams whatever those maybe. "The brick walls are there to separate the people who really want this, from the people that really don't."

We are currently working on learning about Existentialism and existentialist therapy in class so this kinda fits into that. Great stuff.

I don't think I could do it again....

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)Well hello ladies and gents... I wasn't going to post until tomorrow because I had been out and about all day. I didn't have much time to do my usual sweep of the interwebs, but, at the last minute of course, I found an article summarizing the interview that Oprah did with JK Rowling a couple of days ago I think.

Anyway, the title is "I could write two more Harry Potter books, reveals Scots author JK Rowling." [FYI- It should be English author not Scots]

So at first when I read the title I was in disbelief that she would write more Potter books. Being the huge nerd that I am, I was freaken excited... but then I was like, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! More Potter books??? I don't think I can say goodbye again!" It was actually kind of hard reading the last book and knowing that there wasn't going to be another Potter book. I mean, I had spent quite a few years of my life waiting for the outcome of the series even though I knew it meant the end. I cried like a weenie when I finished DH.

Ya, ya I know! It sounds utterly ridiculous that one would have such a reaction to something like that. Don't judge me. :looks at you with squinty eyes:

Have you all ever had the same reaction to something like this? Or if you're a Potter head like I am, what do you think of there even being a possibility of another book?

PS. She never actually says she'll write another one, she just says she could.
