Who's Lifesabee?

This is in response to the "Who am I?" blog:

1. What is your story?

My story begins in 1985 even though I sometimes feel like it may have started earlier than that as in a previous life. Growing up I’ve been ahead or behind my time whichever way you see it. My peers have told me I’m an old soul but I like to think that I am who I am because of my life experiences. My parents divorced when I was 8 due to abusive behavior at home.

When that happened, we lived in a safe house which means we weren’t allowed to go anywhere or see anyone. It very much felt like a prison even though the purpose of it was to escape the prison at home. Kind of weird! Anyway, so my mom had to provide for us (4 daughters) on her own which meant we spent lots of time alone or with babysitters. My older sister moved out of our house at age 16 with her boyfriend so that left me (the 2nd oldest) to become the 2nd parent in the family. I helped with homework, food, babysitting duties and I would help my mom with her English assignments for college (I was only in jr. high). We lived in government housing so were around other families like us.

I pretty much learned to be timid/hesitant of new people b/c I knew that many of them are out to do harm not good. By keeping quiet & observing, I learned to read people and in between the lines when they spoke. I say I’m pretty good at pinpointing the good vs the bad people. By the time I was in high school, my parents decided to get back together. I’d love to say that the abuse was gone but there was still quite a bit of verbal abuse. I was much older so I learned to stand up for myself & talk back. I know you aren’t supposed to do that to your parents but it was the only way to fight back so I did. There was just no way in heck I was going to let another person dictate my life or make up my mind for me.

I finished high school & I moved the heck out at 18 to continue my education. Being away from my parents was both hard & nice; I learned to deal on my own, met a nice man, fell in love, and decided to marry. My parents remarried a month before I got married and had another baby 8 months before I had my first. I don’t hold any hard feelings but I also don’t like being involved in their drama so I stay away from it as much as possible and I make the best out of my time with them.

2. What are your expectations?

My expectations are to achieve everything I set my mind to. I don’t hold high expectations that they will happen fast but I do know that they will if I only have patience. Good things happen to those who wait, right? Also, things happen for a reason. If something goes wrong or you are delayed, there’s a reason for it. So, we have to take the delays in life & turn them around. Make the best of the detour. When you get lost, instead of cursing, sightsee! If you hadn't gotten lost in the first place, you would have never made it here.  That’s what I say anyway! :)  See the positives, not the negatives.

3. What is your purpose?

My purpose is to help other people. I have always been a great advocate of helping others whether it be with a project, with life, with advice, an open ear, a shoulder to cry on, whatever the case might be. I know that’s where I belong I just haven’t found a job where I can do that & still support my family. One day though…

4. What is your destination?

My destination is to make a difference in someone else’s life which will in turn be the little seed that helps someone else. It’s like the pay it forward movie: if I can make someone happy, they can make someone else happy and so on until the world becomes a better place. One person can’t make ALL THE DIFFERENCE but they can make SOME DIFFERENCE in the universe. Or at least I’d like to think so.

5. What is your path?

I guess if I knew this answer I’d be there by now?? I don’t really know the correct path, I know one of the paths is to be nice to everyone you meet & treat them like you’d like to be treated. However, you can’t always be nice to those that wish you harm b/c then you get taken advantage of & that’s not good either. You need to be happy with yourself if you want to be happy with the world around you & I don’t think you can accomplish that when you’re always thinking of others before yourself. You come first but determining what is right v.s. wrong isn’t always easy & that’s a fine line you have to step on.

6. Who are your adversaries?

The biggest adversary is always yourself! You’re the only one stopping yourself from achieving your goals, from being happy, and from being brave & taking that first step. My biggest adversary is getting too comfortable that the thought of an abrupt change, freaks me out. I try to take small steps to finally tell myself, “Hey, it’s not about you being selfish, it’s about you doing what’s best for you.” Then, I’m usually ok with the decision or courageous step I’m about to take.

7. Who are your allies?

My allies are my friends. They believe in me, they have faith that I’ll make the right decision, & they support me in whatever it is I decide to do. They are never judgmental, they accept that people make mistakes, & they love me b/c I’m the best person ever!! Lol (This was becoming too sappy…lol) So, what keeps me on the right path is my trust that things will go as planned, the faith that if they don’t it will be ok, my patience to wait for the right moment, & my determination to keep on pushing even when it’s a hard thing to do. I’m a fighter…I always have been so when I hear that I can’t do something I use it as fire to make sure that I do it to prove to that person & ultimately myself that I can! So, f off you haters!

Who am I?

So, I was reading this article on care2.com and it listed 7 ways to know "Who Am I?" Well, since most of us are going through these weird phases in our lives I thought it would be neat if we each wrote a post answering these questions. It would be interesting to see everyone's perspective on who they think they are.
So ladies, I challenge you to answer these questions for yourself and post them as a new blog post. To the ladies and gents who may read our blog I challenge you to answer the questions and post them as a comment to this blog.
Good luck with the self analysis. :)
Bless your face and peace off!
Adapted from Life After Death, by Deepak Chopra (Harmony Books, 2006).
Here are seven ways to help you define who you are.
1. What is your story?
Your story is more than just a list of the events in your life. It is about your self-image, how you see yourself, what shaped your mind, which memories imprinted themselves on you. Taken altogether, your story tells you where you are in the cycle of life.
2. What are your expectations?
Expectations are seeds. Once planted, they manifest into those things we gain from life, or lose. When you become aware of your own expectations, you discover the unspoken limits you have set on yourself. There is a huge difference between those who expect great things and those who don’t.
3. What is your purpose?
This is the meaning you are trying to find. Purpose runs deeper than the superficial things we hope to get, which mostly center on money, possessions, status, and comfort. If you know your purpose, you know the deeper project to which your life is dedicated.
4. What is your destination?
This is about fulfillment. Human goals are endless; they unfold, not like a road that has an end but like a river that flows to join the sea, merging with ever larger possibilities. If you know your destination, you can envision your highest fulfillment.
5. What is your path?
Having identified your purpose and your destination, there must be a way to get there. “Path” has been adopted as a spiritual term, but in fact everyone, spiritual or not, follows certain ways to get where they want to go.
6. Who are your adversaries?
Forward motion is never without obstacles. On your path you will find yourself blocked. At times the adversary is external, but if you examine yourself deeply, you will find it is always internal as well.
7. Who are your allies?
We all bring others with us on our journey. Just as your adversaries did, you may identify these allies as external, but they only reflect your own inner strength, just as an opponent reflects your inner vulnerability.

THUNDER!

This person caught some pretty neat footage of the storm the other night. Check it out:

Or if you wanna check it out on full screen go here: http://www.yumasun.com/video/?videoId=597254221001&lineupId=1178176697

Wee wooo, wee wooo, WE WOOO...

So, I was just reading this article about where it will cost you an arm and a butt cheek if you speed over the limit while driving and holy hell, some places fine you over $1,000!

I don't know about you guys, but I have been pulled over once for speeding and got a ticket for it. This was back in the day when I was living in Phoenix and traveled between Yuma and there every so often. I thought I was just going ten over the speed limit, but apparently DPS clocked me in at more than that. Eek! The officer was actually pretty nice about it 'cause he could have taken my ass to jail... I'm so glad he freaken didn't! LOL. I ended up paying to go to traffic school and that cost me around $300 or so dollars. On a college students income that's a heck of a lot of money.

Had I been speeding like this on the east coast such as in Georgia or Virgina I could have been freaken screwed! I would have had a freaken heart attack had I been fined that much when I got my ticket here in AZ.

Anyway, you know what I find is odd? My sister lives in Georgia and she says everyone speeds like a freaken maniac and nobody can drive there. My dad said the same thing when he had to drive Jaz cross country to Georgia.

You would think that people would obey their 80mph speed limit, no? Ya, my dad said they had 80mph speed limits posted in some areas.... I think that's more than enough speed.

Anyway, if you're interested in the article you can check it out here:

My friday post, today.

So I was just surfing the web doing anything but what I was supposed to be doing and came across this article. I found it to be very interesting and thought you might like to read it. It is regarding depression and negative thinking and how people who deal with these have their brain hardwired to react too much, and too fast to the stressors around them. It also provides us with 3 tips that we can use to re-train our brain to be happier. Theres more to it than that but this is my very very brief summary of it. Hope you enjoy, and here's to changing the activity in our brain to the left pre-frontal cortex so that we can be happier! lol

HAPPY BDAY TO YOU!

I just wanted to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our dear friend Party of 3!!  People always ask"so how does it feel to be older?"...so I won't ask that but I will ask, "How does it feel to be older than the rest of us??"  lol  Do you feel old & wrinkly yet?

I'm only teasing but...how do you feel?  Is it just another day?  Are you in a better mood?  Are you mad/sad/angry?  Do you have any plans for today or are you saving them all for this weekend?

P.S. My niece VR also celebrates her bday today except she turns the terrible 2's today! As if she wasn't already terrible!  lol

"Do what is right, not what is easy..."

I don't know whether or not you guys have been following the whole business with the building of community center near Ground Zero, but yesterday New York Mayor Bloomberg gave a speech in regards to the Mosque that would be built there.

I have to say his speech does a great job in showing what it is our country; America, is supposed to embody. I encourage you guys to take watch the video below.

I Went walking in the Park today and...

I went walking in the park today in the evening because it is way too hot for Santi to go the beach during the day, and some bitch had to get me mad. There where two couples sitting parallel to each other and talking. However, one of the couples was not there when I was doing my walking and they decided to sit down to talk to the other couple (they where sitting on the sidewalk too) so they're in my way and on top of that that was my last lap.  The lady on the left was talking shit not to me but out loud, so what did I decide to do? Walk thru again and then again....lol They even put a stroller in between and I was tempted to knock it over....lol I am starting to be a bitch or at least half way there? All I am saying is that if you're so into talking shit say it to me. "I got a New Attutide" Have you guys heard that song from Patti LaBelle?

Dating in the Dark

Apparently the show has been on in the past but I've been following along this season.  If you haven't yet, check out the 1st episode here.  Anyway, it got me thinking that people today will try anything to find the love of their life.

We have seen Speed Dating in towns, Online Dating sites, The Bachelor/Bachelorette tv shows, & now we have 2 more tv shows: Bachelor Pad & Dating in the Dark.  Would you do any of these but more specifically would you date someone in the dark?

Overdraft Fees no more...

...unless you opt in that is.  If you followed this along, then you know that this became effective Aug. 15th for current customers & July 1 for new customers.  Banks are no longer allowed to charge you overdraft fees which means that any charges that would cause you to overdraw on the account will not be accepted.

Is this good or bad? I know my opinion on this matter but what do you think?

Better days

I have been going into some weird depressive mood swings lately....I attribute it to the horrendous amount of junk food/fast food I have been eating and the heat and back pain.

This week started off kind of bad but was quickly snapped out of it. One of my very wise co-workers vented about some very tough situations he has been facing lately and it made me realize...."WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING STEPH!!?" There is no reason for me to be sad....about anything. LIFE IS TOO SHORT to spend my time dealing with sadness, fear, uncertainty, anxiety, negativity.... you name it!

Sure I may not be where I would like to be on various levels of my life, but I should make the best of it while I can.

I was given some great advice as well regarding parents. "One of the best things you can do to your mom and dad is to hug them and let them know just how much you love them. And do it as much as you can, because you never really know when we will never see them again." Needless to say I started crying after this haha See this is coming from a parent, who is dealing with somethings with his parent so I understood this and it makes sense to me. He knows what he is talking about. So I guess what I am trying to get at is, I know sometimes our parents don't always show us how much they love us....well in a way that is clear to us that they love us, but let us love them and verbally/clearly tell them we love them. I know they will appreciate it, even they may be like "what the hell is wrong with you?" Its just a facade, they really do like it lol

I think this can be extended to everyone in our lives that we love. So for all of my wonderful friends/family and everyone else in between....I LOVE YOU!! :) (Just picture my high pitched squeaky voice saying it hahaha lovely huh?)

Here's hoping that all of our days are as bright and beautiful as natures flowers (cause remember I really like flowers lol),

Namaste,
Steph

Miss Universe 2010

So, I don't know if you all heard that Miss Mexico was crowned Miss Universe 2010 last night. How exciting for her and the people of Mexico!

I thought she looked gorgeous! Gah, I wish I were as pretty, lol. Anyway, while I wanted to let you guys know that she had won I also wanted to touch upon another aspect of this whole thing. I was just on celestrellas.com and was reading an article about the pageant. The article just mentions the night's happenings but then when you get down to the comment section some people become completely ridiculous!

For example:
Betty- "How political can you get.I told my husband when it first started it would be Miss Mexico. Wow, ture to form."

And someone by the name of MCB responded to her statement with:

"I totally agree with you Betty and thats exactly what me an a lot of people I talked to about this junk a couple of days ago about it coming on TV. We all thought the fix was in for her from the start. Maybe she needs to be thanking not only the paid off judges but maybe obummer and his political czars that pull these "fixes" for him that made this happen. May her reign be a short on because she won only because of politics. Anyone who does not see this plainy is still sipping the Koolaid. New senate majority in November.... can't wait."

Seriously are fucking kidding me? Holy hell people, what is up with all the crazy ass conspiracy theories? Look, I'm not saying that politics didn't have anything to with it. Everything usually does have some sort of politics involved but to takes ones assumptions that far is completely ridiculous! Truthfully, what has anyone to gain by who is named Miss Universe? I think very little if anything at all.

I think another commenter put it the best:

April- "Its funny how everything that we disagree about is turned into a political issue. Its a freaken beauty pageant. Miss Mexico won... plain and simple. Miss Venezuela was Miss Universe last year. Did anyone cry about Hugo Chavez having a smear campaign againts George Bush?
Is it the Mexicans bombing your builings or creating terrorism? Is it Obama running the beauty pageant?
No Fools!..."

I think it's about time we stop spreading all this freaken hate! I'm so freaken tired of it! >.< Get a fucken grip people and work to make the world a better place and not a shit hole!

Ok, I'll step off of my soap box now. As Toby Turner would say, "Bless your face and peace off!"

PS. I loved her dress! I think the red really made her stand out against the rest of the contestants.

Dessert Personality Test

Here is a fun test that Criminologynerd passed on & since Party of 3 never seems to check her email...here it is.

If all of the eight desserts listed below were sitting in front of you, which would you choose (sorry, you can only pick one)!

Trust me... This is very accurate.  Pick your dessert and then look to see what psychiatrists think about you.

REMEMBER - No cheating. Make your choice before you check the meaning.

After taking this dessert personality test, send this e-mail on to others, but when you do, be sure to put your choice of dessert in the subject box above.

ALSO SEND IT TO THE PERSON WHO SENT IT TO YOU.

DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR DESSERT CHOICE IN THE SUBJECT BOX BEFORE YOU FORWARD IT.

Here are your choices:
1. Angel Food Cake
2. Brownies
3. Lemon Meringue Pie
4. Vanilla Cake With Chocolate Icing
5. Strawberry Short Cake
6. Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Icing
7. Ice Cream
8. Carrot Cake

No, you can't change your mind once you scroll down, so think carefully about what your choice will be.
OK - Now that you've made your choice, this is what the researchers say about you...
SCROLL DOWN... No cheating...

1. ANGEL FOOD CAKE - Sweet, loving, cuddly. You love all warm and fuzzy items. A little nutty at times.  Sometimes you need an ice cream cone at the end of the day. Others perceive you as being childlike and immature at times.

2. BROWNIES - You are adventurous, love new ideas, and are a champion of underdogs and a slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up you whip out your saber. You are always the oddball with a unique sense of humor and direction. You tend to be very loyal.

3. LEMON MERINGUE - Smooth, sexy & articulate with your hands, you are an excellent caregiver
and a good teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time. A bit of a diva at times, you
set your own style because you do your own thing. You shine when it comes to helping others and have many friends.

4. VANILLA CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING - Fun-loving, sassy, humorous, not very grounded in life; very indecisive and lacking motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you, but you are a practical joker. Others should be cautious in making you mad. However, you are a friend for life.

5. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE - Romantic, warm, loving. You care about other people, can be counted on in a pinch and expect the same in return. Intuitively keen. You can be very emotional at times
but a true person in every way. You like to do things for yourself and help others learn about themselves.

6. CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING - Sexy; always ready to give and receive.
Very creative, adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You can appear to have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.

7. ICE CREAM - You like sports, whether it be baseball, football, basketball or soccer. If you could, you would like to participate, but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like to give up the remote control. You tend to be self-centered and high maintenance.

8. CARROT CAKE - You are a very fun loving person, who likes to laugh. You are fun to be with. People like to hang out with you. You are a very warm hearted person and a little quirky at times. You have many loyal friends. You were meant to lead and teach others. A wonderful role model.

But Im not ready yet!!

"But, but, but im not even ready yet!!!" That is exactly how I feel about school starting already....oy! Just the thought about school nearly caused me to have a panic attack the other day.....it was kind of funny after it passed of course lol

This semester should be fun I think. I am taking: Thories of Counseling [the book is pretty interesting...i kinda skimmed it already], Tests and measurements [I wonder if I can test people? muhahaha], and I will also be taking Drug and Alcohol abuse [this one should be good as well]

I guess my thing is the classes seem to be very interesting and I am excited for them.....just not so excited for juggling school, work (don't get me wrong I am very glad I have a job in this economy but still), and the very little section I call my personal life which is pretty much non-existent hahaha

Cheers to being a modern day go get it woman....aaaannnd I am not married or even have any kids yet!! I honestly don't know how you ladies do it....it is major tough and my hats off to you all out there that are juggling like this or have done it in the past. Now this is what I call being strong, which has nothing to do with muscles or being a man. (Sorry my feminist side came out there a little....wait a minute NO I am not sorry about it at all haha)

So is there anything that you guys are looking forward to or dreading in the near future??

Did you hear about this?

YPD seeks suspect in alleged attempted kidnapping

The Yuma Police Department is seeking a suspect after an alleged kidnapping attempt Tuesday.
According to a news release, a 33-year-old female was walking on 28th Street near Avenue B at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, when she reported she was approached by male who asked her if she needed a ride.
After she refused, the male attempted to pull her into the van, according to the release.
The victim received minor abrasions during the scuffle, but was able to get away and the suspect fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a male in his 40s, 5’10”, thick build with slicked back hair and a goatee.
According to the release, he was last seen wearing sunglasses, a diamond stud earring in his right ear, a white shirt with grease spots, dark carpenter-style pants and dark shoes with blue laces. He spoke in broken English, according to the release.
The vehicle was described as a white, older model, full-sized van with a side door. The van had no side or rear windows, rust and repair or Bondo-type spots.
According to the report, it possibly had a Mexico license plate.
There was at least one witness who honked their car horn during the incident who remains unidentified, according to the release.
The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with information about this case to please call (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime to remain anonymous.

Seriously WTF? This makes me nervous because the booger is training for cross country right now and her and a bunch of other kids are out there running the same freaken streets. I mean ya, sometimes they stay in groups and the coach is following them, but he can't keep an eye on all of them. Especially not when some of the runners are faster or slower than others and like to run at their own pace. :/
