An Open Letter To America By N. Reyna Amaya

I just finished reading this letter by N. Reyna Amaya. It truly encompasses a lot of the feels that I have been feeling for that last few weeks. I encourage you all to read it; she did a great job writing it.

An Open Letter to America

I agree with the letter but the sad truth is that America has never truly been the land of the free. Don't get me wrong, there were times when it was booming & it was all it could be. However, for the past 20 years or so, laws have been imposed on us to bring in that rope and hold a tighter ship on all of us.

People don't realize it but all the laws that are supposed to help us have actually been hurting us. Freedom of speech? How so when everything is tweaked & edited. Freedom of religion? Then why was God removed from everything?

We all have a right to our own opinion & beliefs but when that opinion hurts the greater good, we need to rethink it. Why are we all fighting with each other when we should be uniting to fight other countries who are trying to bring us down. It doesn't make any sense to me at all!

You know, it is hard to read the letter without getting sentimental especially on the part where the author is describing how her dad struggled to get to America in hopes of achieving the dream of FREEDOM, SAFETY, & EQUALITY. I think of my grandpa & how he's no longer with us. He too believed in that dream & we are proof of that. He didn't want to end up dying in this country because he realized how messed up it was & nobody believed him.

Toward the end of his life, he figured his whole family lived here so he had to accept the fact that he would die here & be buried here. What other choice did he have? If he was buried in Mexico nobody would ever visit him. He was absolutely right & yet why are we still fighting for a country that isn't willing to fight for us?????
