After 9/11 middle eastern people & middle easter looking people were harrassed & mistreated. Recently, gays/lesbians were fighting for their right to get married. Today we are fighting against racial profiling. It's not so much that we are fighting for Mexicans or Hispanics per se but just the fact that it's not right for people to be able to judge that specific looking individuals are here illegally or commiting crimes. This isn't right.
What if the tables turned? Assume that we passed a law that said that police are required, when reasonable suspicion exists that someone belongs to the KKK, to run a criminal background check to prove that they indeed do not. Who do you think would be reasonably suspicious? Blacks? Try again. Hispanics? Getting there. Blonde haired, light eyed individuals?!! BINGO!! Would those people cry out & shout then? Of course they would & we would suport them. We simply ask that they do the same for us by fighting against SB 1070.
The sad thing is that we already fought for this in 1963. Or did we all forget Martin Luther King Jr's speech?
