I've enjoyed the Christmas lights down Candy Cane Lane & the Klein's house more times this year than my entire life! Partly because my son is now old enough to enjoy them...& he sure does! He wants to go pretty much every night! lol Anyway, I mentioned all this because Christmas used to be fun once upon a time and the magic of it all just sort of DIED!
I blame it on the fact that most parents now buy their kids pretty much whatever they want without thinking of their budget, quality, & use of the product they are buying. Why buy kids high tech stuff when they will not TAKE CARE OF IT or the enthusiasm of the toy/gadget will die by next year & they will want the next best thing? After all, why not focus on spreading the Christmas cheer to those who truly need it and showing your kids some appreciation for the things they do have along the way?
Isn't that what Christmas is all about...well, aside from celebrating the birth of CHRIST? Yes, I said it but people forget about that because they get so carried away with presents & politics. It would be less hectic, less stressful, more joyful, and more fun if we kept it simple. A dinner with family & a day full of fun! Maybe we should change the name from Christmas to Gift Day? lol I wonder how many people got ticked off over that comment...lol
By the way, does anyone know why it isn't just called Christ Day & why it's not on the right DATE?
Enjoy this YouTube Video of a holiday song I love:

It's become more than just a Christian holiday and that's why there is a pretty big influence on just the merry making and gift giving portion of the holiday.
I agree with you on the gift giving to kids nowadays. Seriously, do they really need the new version of such such and such? Really???
That's what my neighbor does with her girls. They get these ridiculously expensive things just to have them sit in the closet or get broken. But whatevs man, there money.
When I was a kid we used to get one gift for Christmas and that was it. People would always ask so what you'd get and when we told people about just that one thing they'd be shocked we only got that. We never had a problem with it. It was usually something we really wanted ie. a bike, the stereo I got when I was 12, my porcelain doll, etc. Minus the bike, it's all stuff I still have. I'm glad my parents didn't spoil us. :)
I know why it's call Christ-mas not Christ Day. And it's not on the right day because no one knows the exact day Jesus was born it's a gestimate/winters solstice thing/ ancient winter festivals takeover.
1 present was awesome b/c it was usually something you really, really wanted! That rocked!
For my birthday one year I got a Super Nintendo w/Mario Bros. game. I was so ecstatic! I still have it! lol So I can totally understand still having your Christmas gifts.
I remember this one year my mom dressed up as Santa, bought a bunch of $1 gifts (which us kids of course disliked b/c they weren't for us) & we took them to Mexico for my cousins to enjoy. They were so happy they got presents from Santa!
It made me realize that they didn't care that their presents were cheap they were just so happy to have gtotten anything at all. Yet, here we were...snotty little brats wanting the latest & greatest. That year, I realized there were more important things in life than getting EVERYTHING you want. :P
Not that we ever did...but you know what I mean.
Well said my friends!! :) And I will say this, to those people who take "offense" to being told that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ and not gifting.....get over yourself please. Christmas wasn't placed on this earth to offend you.......you simply choose to be offended. (Realistic Theory...you choose to be the way you are/the way you feel. Fantastic stuff)
I will say that I agree with both of you in that now days parents buy their kids ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! Do they really need all of those things? No, no they don't. @Criminologynerd 1 gift is awesome because it means that it is something that you really want and it will allow you to value it so much more because it is only one.
It would be so much better to show our kids to give to others who really need it. @LIfesabee that is sooo awesome that your mom and you guys did that!! :) I think that's a lesson that you learned at a far younger age than many of us, and for some people ever.
Im definitely into this whole spending time with family and friends. Give me time to relax and spend with my family and my friends and I am the happiest camper ever.....who needs gifts? At least not the materialistic kind. Yea it's nice to receive them but after a while they lose their meaning and it's just more stuff.
I will admit it I was a spoiled little brat, the only child so my mom went way over board with getting me gifts for Christmas. However I always valued sharing and knew that if I didn't need something or if I didn't use it I could give it to someone who did need it and would use it. This is something I am so very grateful my mom instilled in me. :)
