Dealing with Loss & Learning from People You Love

So I've been talking to an old classmate that I never really talked to much while we were classmates.  LOL  Isn't it funny how that works out?  Anyway, we've been talking online since we became friends on myspace & I'd say we've become close.  She recently moved to a bigger home & she was so excited about it.

Well, her grandmother passed away a few days ago & she's trying to deal with the loss.  Her grandmother raised her so she was pretty close to her.  She says she spends every day moping around crying.  Her husband & kids try to comfort her but dealing with the loss of a loved one is always difficult.  Her status comment today read something to the extent of her grandmother being the one to always tell her things would be ok & now she's gone.

It's definitely difficult when your support system shatters & you feel like a part of you is gone forever.  So I've been trying to sheer her up by remembering the good things about her grandmother.  I know it won't be an easy road & I also know that remembering her grandmother will make her miss her more but she will soon realize that the memories are what keep someone alive & that even after they depart this Earth, they still remain with us.

Have you ever suffered the loss of a family member or loved one & what are some of the things you learned from that person?

The deaths I have been around are family members that I did not have an impact on. My grandmother died when I was 4 and my other one died in 2006 but I only seen her four times. I don't remember much about my mother's mom, but my dad's mom I remember saying good morning every day when I woke up and she was teaching how to knit.
